The early form of Jimo lace started to appear during the reign of Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dynasty for official robes and caps. In the early Republican period two gentlemen learnt the skills from Italian missionary and combined the European embroidery techniques with local stich into an unique stlye. It made Jimo Lace entered into a new time. They set up 'De Chi Studio' in 1931 and spreaded thie techniques among the people. Because of their talent and diligence, Jimo Lace got well-known in local and overseas market very soon. It is an important part of intangible cultural heritage of China now.
